Annual General Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting - 1/18/12
The Red Sauce, The Villages, FL

Presentations by Jeb Stewart, Endurofit and Roy Foley, Bicycle Fitter and Coach preceded the meeting.
Cliff Jackson was presented with three (3) trophies for winning the 2011 FPS Crown series, Masters 65+ representing Florida Masters.
An announcement was made by Wally Kurz for an cycling event on March 10th, The Village Charity Ride for children in the tri-city area.
The annual meeting was called to order by outgoing president, Dave Viney at 8:25PM. Introductions to the current board of directors were made.
Treasurer’s Report:
Dan O’Hara, treasurer, presented the recap of the financials for 2011: $6,825 collected; $614 in the bank at the end of the year plus inventory to sell. The 2012 dues have been requested from the membership. Current membership: 60.
We currently have commitments from the following sponsors and a cycle shop in the works:

- Sinibaldi Insurance, John Sinibaldi
- Stevens Roofing, Robert Stevens
- The Red Sauce Restaurant, The Villages
Election of President and Vice President and nominations for the BOD:
Rose Marie Ray, secretary of the BOD, solicited nominations from the floor for the positions of president and vice president. Steve Agronick was nominated but declined the presidency; D. O’Hara was nominated and elected by unanimous vote.
Steve Agronick was nominated and elected by unanimous vote for vice president.
Each will serve a one-year term.
Dave Viney turned the meeting over to Dan O’Hara who spoke a few words about where he will lead the club: More club rides and races, meetings, participation as a team, and commitment from the membership. Dan has asked for support to having meetings every six to eight weeks.

General Business: Committee Reports:
Sponsorship:
John Sinibaldi has renewed his sponsorship and offered a new approach, seconded by sponsor, Robert Stevens. The club would choose January 1, 2013 for the start date of new sponsorship (or renewal of existing sponsorship). HOWEVER - all sponsors would be solicited and locked in by September 1, 2012 so that kits may be ordered and delivered prior to January 1, 2013. The kits would be good for two years - which really makes it easy to start adding new sponsors two years out (locking them in by Sep 1, 2014 for the next two year cycle starting January 1, 2015). This was tabled for future discussion.
Race: There will be an Australian Pursuit on the Pine Island, flat, loop course, February 26. The inaugural race was a great success.
Insurance: Bill Bellew is still investigating club insurance. John Sinibaldi volunteered his experience with USA Cycling insurance that can cover an individual and/or family for approximately $46/year. Other options are still be investigated so that the club can be absolved of financial responsibility in the event of an accident while on a club ride or sponsored event.
Team Clothing: There will be no major kit changes until we get another large sponsor; we are staying with Podium; kit sizing may be off due to new manufacturer in China.
Discussion Topics:
2012 Racing: Club will work toward getting club-member support of meeting directors who are working with us to insure that the 60+ age group does not have to ride with the 50+ age group – men but instead rides with the 50+ age-group women. Dave Viney is boycotting races that are not supporting our position of race safety.
It was noted that, when renewing your USCF license, please register as racing for: Florida Masters.
US Senior Games: The club is going to promote the St. Petersburg/Ft. DeSoto, Good Life Games, 3/3-4/8/2012, road races and time trials for member support.
A motion was made to adjoin the meeting, seconded, and the meeting was closed at 9:00.
As a personal note, I hope that everyone will join me in personally thanking Dave Viney for leading us through the first two years. His dedication, commitment, and leadership in charting the direction of the club and making things happen were sincerely appreciated.
Thanks to Steve Agronick for arranging the meeting, presentations, and our new sponsor, The Red Sauce. The food was delicious and service good and the meeting place worked out well.

While John, Bryan and Pam did the timing I did (or tried to do with John Mills able help) the final math and results so blame the errors on me and let me know where 2+2 didn't equal 4 !
Excellent venue and a hard days training with 2 x 20+min all out-too bad there wasn't a better turnout to support it. Post event we had good social gathering with lots to eat and drink. Fun time for all who showed!

TT News-Women
Bryan Staples , our resident expert on VTTA handicap system, just pointed out that this table also applies to women in the event, only, and I quote "For Ladies times add ten years to their age and use Men’s times above". So as I understand it a 50yr old woman's base time would be 27:03(the time of 60yr old man).See chart below for handicaps and the bulletins below for details on TT.

Jan 8th TT Update
John Sharp, Bryan Staples and I met at Silver Lake this morning and things are now all set for the first ever Club TT this coming Sunday. As stated earlier it will be around Silver Lake in Leesburg-opposite Leesburg Airport and north of Sumter College-take 441 to College Drive(stoplight) down to Silver lake Dr-turn right onto Silver Lake Drive and start area is right there in parking lot by tennis courts-overflow parking can go to Dog Walk lot or to main College lot-both only 1/4 mile from start line. Start time 10am sign in by 9:30 then off at 10am will be "Open" class so TT and regular bikes and full aero acceptable then at 10:45 will be Merckx class-no TT specific equipment or bikes(allowable will be skinsuits and aero booties since you could ride them in any road race and it is tough for those doing both to change from skinsuit to jersey and shorts)but no clip ons, aero helmets, deep wheels(more than 80 mm)etc. It is expected than many(most?) riders will do both classes for the workout hence the small "rest" between starts. Results will be based on 1)straight fastest times 2) VTTA tables(note there was bit of math error in earlier published tables for some ages-this is being corrected and the new tables will be used for Sunday)-starts will be on 30 sec intervals and be seeded approx slowest to fastest riders for both events. Prizes-yes there will be small token prizes to winners of each event (fastest time and VTTA winner x 2 events) but winners can only claim one prize i.e. winner on fastest time in Open event also wins Merckx class event-so Merckx prize would go to 2nd place in that event.
Snacks and drinks post event will be supplied($5 contribution required)-washrooms at college MIGHT be open but a stop at the HESS gas station(441 and College drive) might be prudent.Any questions bring them up on the forum thread and I will try to answer them.

Florida Masters - 60+ Category !

OK Guys & Gals,
Steve has worked with Keri and the Deland Spring Fling weekend now has a 60+ class race on Saturday, just what we asked for and if we don't enter and support the Saturday Race then it probably won't happen again !

The Saturday race is on a flat safe 1+ mile circuit, all easy wide sweeping turns and a big long wide straightaway to the finish. It's a great opportunity to ride with your Club mates in an event made for us.
Again I point out that so far this is the only 60+ race in which we are not lumped in with the 50+ and if we do not show up and race, it won't happen again. Enter or suffer the long term consequences !!!

First Ever Florida Masters Time Trial - Preliminary Notice

Date Sunday Jan 8th of 2012!
Location-around Silver Lake in Leesburg-behind Sumter College, opposite Lessburg Airport
Start Time 10am must sign in by 9:30-exact start line and parking to be determined
Course- 2.9 mile very flat lap around lake-event will be 3 laps or 8.7 miles
Format Time Trial individual starts every 30 secs
Equipment-2 classes 1) Time trial bikes-any legit TT style bike acceptable 2) "Merckx style" NO aero equipment allowed-stock road bike, wheels, clothes, helmets
Awards (term used VERY loosely!!) 1) based on the fastest times 2) handicap system developed by VTTA in Britain and modified to suit our course by Bryan Staples-basically you get time bonus based on age-example Steve A who is 8 yrs older than me would get approx a 2 minute advantage on me. Something new for Florida TT'ing but should make things much more even across the age groups-we will see!
This system has adapted from the British Time Trial Association to suit our unique 8.7 mile distance-if for example a 61 yr old rode 26.17 he would in fact be beaten by a 69 yr old who rode faster than 28.12-or to put it another way the 61yr old has to finish at least 1.54 ahead of 69 yr old to be the handicap classification winner. We propose to use this table in both TT class and Merckx class so there will in fact be 4 winners-one in each class based on pure time and one in each class based on handicap times. (see chart below)
Cost-Event is free but we will be providing post event snacks and refreshments and a $5.00 per head contribution would be appreciated.
Qualification-1) Florida Masters member 2) be able to count to 3 laps without official assistance!
Post event there may be road ride out through Emeralda Marsh if enough people want to make a real workout of the day
If this course works well, and it is really pretty close to perfect for TT, then it may become our "home" course so here is your first shot a getting a base time established.
Again it would help in food and officials planning if we had solid estimate of approx number so please go to Forum thread "Silver Lake TT" and give "yea I'll be there" to help us out.
